This Sunday: We will read about the selection of the first lay leader and consider how leadership works in covenant communities. Pastor Gary’s sermon is titled “This Ain’t Athens.” Our Visual Liturgy will feature hip hop-influenced spoken word artist Micah Bournes on the scripture passage that claims “those who have turned the world upside down have come to our city.” We’ll ordain a handful of deacons that missed the previous rite, and have our usual amazing musical worship.

This Sunday at 9 am the adult Sunday School class will explore Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s teaching on the central place of intercessory prayer in a Christian community. The children will also meet at 9 am with Ronnie Schoenewolf assisted by Kari Kaczmarek All are welcome.

This Sunday in worship we will consider a passage from the Acts of the Apostles, and Pastor Gary will address efforts to reach young adults and young families. We will also have a powerful Mother’s Day visual liturgy. There will be no Sunday School for adults or children before church this week to accommodate all the breakfasts-in-bed.

9.00am Faith Development for Children (in the Library) and Adults (in the Vestry). The adult faith development class will meet with Liz for continued meditations on Scripture and explorations of Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s classic book on Christian community, Life Together. All are welcome.

At 10.15am we gather for Service of the Word and Table. This service will be in a traditional style. Guest preacher the Rev. Kate Layzer will deliver a sermon called “Occupied Territory.” Pastor Kate, pictured above, has been an important christian voice in the Occupy Boston movement.

Annie and Pastor Gary lead the community in our laid-back Contemporary Worship at 6.00pm in the Sanctuary. Dress casual, and bring cushions if you want to sit on the floor.

This Sunday we consider Christian Unity and Division in a sermon based on Jesus’ statement that there is One Shepherd, One Flock. Guest Drummer Elliot Pepper joins Ed and the Choir in leading our musical worship. Please join us!

At 9:00am there is Sunday School for Adults (in the Vestry) and Children (in the Library of the Office Building). This week the adults with gather with Liz for Scripture meditation and continued exploration of Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Life Together. This week’s focus: cultivating thankfulness and Christ-centered community.

Easter Sunday kicks off with a lay lead Sunrise Service on the bay. The boat leaves from the Sayville Ferry terminal at 6:00am sharp. Immediately after the service, join us for pancakes in the Fellowship Hall. At 10:15am the community gathers for Festival Worship in the Sanctuary. Ed and the choir will lead the music, and Pastor Gary will provide this message: “Don’t Go To Church.”

This Sunday we begin Holy Week with Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem with the Festival of Palms. Pastor Gary’s sermon, “The Rescuer Has Come, concludes our Lenten theme with an exploration of how Jesus saves through his pre-crucifixion ministry. We will celebrate communion and collect for the Deacon’s Fund.

This Sunday we continue our Lenten worship series with “Saul of Tarsus: Rescued from Hatred.” Pastor Gary’s sermon, “Undivided,” will explore both Paul’s personal transformation and the radical equality that marked the early Christian movement.

This Sunday we will also celebrate a “Donor Sabbath.” Information about organ donation will be in your Order of Service, a display table will be set up during coffee hour, and a guest speaker will give a talk and answer questions in the Sanctuary approximately ten minutes after the service concludes. Please join us in support of this important cause.

This Sunday brings a big dose of Harry Potter and feminism as Pastor Gary’s sermon, “The Deathly Hallows,” considers how God rescues women from invisibility in the Judeo-Christian trajectory.

We’ll also get to hear Ed on the keyboards and Annie on both harp and guitar, a musical banquet of praise. Don’t miss it!

Join Liz and Randolf as Adult Sunday school continues this week at 9am in the Vestry. Ronnie, Kari and Christa will meet for the children’s Sunday School at 9am in the Library.
